The Canadian
Geoscience Knowledge Network (CGKN) is an initiative of the National
Geological Surveys Committee (NGSC) to provide an Internet portal
to Canadian geoscience information.
Dramatic advances
in data management and communication technology have revolutionized
how we access information. With the development of CGKN, the Canadian
geoscience community is becoming a global leader in providing rapid
access to its knowledge assets. Through the CGKN web site, clients
are now able to discover, view, evaluate and obtain consistent and
standardized geoscience data, maps and publications.
The NGSC have
coordinated partnerships with the federal, provincial, and territorial
government agencies, as well as private-sector organizations establishing
a nationally comprehensive network in CGKN. As one of the partners,
GeoConnections is the program responsible for the Canadian Geospatial
Data Infrastructure (CGDI). CGKN will become the geoscience component
of CGDI.
