Objective
To develop all the tools necessary to support the infrastructure
of geodatabases being built based on the North American Data Model
(NADM). These tools will enable access to all geoscience information
from different Canadian agencies via the Internet and permit functionality
of the data regardless of its source.
Approach
GeoMatter
is the tool suite necessary for both input and output of geoscience
information to enable sharing of data over the internet between
agencies.
The
NADM editor will assist the discipline-specific groups in building
their databases. Permitting easy input of information and incorporating
the specific language by providing a consistent and standard infrastructure.
An
OGC-compliant mediator (Open GIS (Geographic Information Systems)
Consortium), map-based web interface is being developed and will
be used by all distributed NADM databases involved in the project.
This will permit data output to be presented on one map although
the data is being collected from several resources.
The Science Language Technical Team of the NADM working group (which
includes federal, provincial and state geologists from North America)
has developed a suite of potential user queries to assist in querying
the data.
Future
More agencies are becoming involved and expanding their data collections.
Our goal is to enhance existing data management tools (GeoMatter)
and develop new input tools to aid the geologist in parsing his/her
interpretation into the defined science language.
